When I first began to exercise regularly about 4 years ago, I splurged and spent a ridiculous amount of money on Nike workout clothes. Every couple of weeks/ months, I would add more to my collection. I eventually became too small for most of it and I wasn’t about to rebuy all of the essential sports bras and leggings.
I still mostly wear only Nike sneakers, but if a pair of non-name brand sneakers catch my eye and are comfortable, I have no shame in wearing them. I actually recently sold 4 pairs of Nike sneakers on Poshmark because I didn’t wear most of them anymore. Styles change constantly, which makes it hard to keep up with Nikes prices.
I am not one of those people who can wear an old tee shirt and some running shorts to the gym. As I’ve mentioned before, when you look good, you FEEL good. As silly as it seems, I’ve gotten the motivation to get to the gym and had some of my best workouts due to an outfit! If you’re worried about people staring, get used to it. It is human nature for a lot of people to stare, don’t take it personally, take it as a compliment.
For any of you who claim to “hate” or say you’re too “old” for forever 21 but love gym wear, stop being stubborn and browse their activewear right now. Obviously, there are some questionable pieces, but there are also some of the most comfortable, flattering & SUPER inexpensive ones. That goes for all of their clothes, in my opinion, you just need to have the patience to browse.
In the colder months, I prefer to wear long sleeve. This entire outfit, all the way down to the sneakers, cost under $100.
The top & sports bra are from forever 21, as are the majority of my workout clothes. I bought the shirt in stores, it’s a small and is SO soft & cozy. The sports bra I bought online, which is still available. I wear a medium.
The leggings are over 2 years old, I bought them for 20 dollars BOGO in stores at Garage. They are still available online which is crazy to me. I wear a small.
I prefer to tie shirts that I am swimming in, in the torso area. It allows for an overall better fit.
One of my favorite things about many of the athletic tops at forever 21 is the “peak a boo” style. They allow you to show off just the right amount of skin, as well as the cool design of a sports bra.
Forever 21 has SO many sports bras with cute back designs and colors, ranging from low impact protection to medium to high.
I absolutely love these leggings because they’re the perfect amount cotton & spandex. They fit you in all the right ways & are extremely comfortable. Not only can they be worn as athletic wear, but they can also be work with tanks, tees, cardigans and sandals as well.
Lastly, I bought these all white super comfortable sneakers from target for $30. I had been wanting a pair of all white Nike sneakers but they get so dirty. I didn’t want to spend 100 dollars on another pair of sneakers when I already have 5 or more. I am not sure of the brand, possibly champion?
That’s all I’ve got for now! If you are a broke college student, a penny pincher, or just don’t see the hype in spending money on name brand athletic wear, here’s your go-to guide to gym style for under $100.
